Different types of disc herniations

1. Bulging Disc

The disc extends outside its normal space but the outer layer is still intact. Often painless at first but can press on nerves over time.

2. Protruding (Contained) Herniation

The disc begins to push outward and may press against nerve roots, causing pain, numbness, or weakness.

3. Extruded (Non-contained) Herniation

The inner disc material breaks through the outer layer, often causing significant nerve irritation and pain.

4. Sequestered Disc

A fragment of the disc breaks off completely and may migrate, leading to unpredictable and intense symptoms.

At Hopkins Health, we specialize in non-surgical spinal decompression therapy to help relieve pressure on herniated discs and promote long-term healing—without drugs or surgery.
