1. Bulging Disc
The disc extends outside its normal space but the outer layer is still intact. Often painless at first but can press on nerves over time.
2. Protruding (Contained) Herniation
The disc begins to push outward and may press against nerve roots, causing pain, numbness, or weakness.
3. Extruded (Non-contained) Herniation
The inner disc material breaks through the outer layer, often causing significant nerve irritation and pain.
4. Sequestered Disc
A fragment of the disc breaks off completely and may migrate, leading to unpredictable and intense symptoms.
